IREL Tradesman Trainee Selection Process 2026 – CBT Exam Pattern and Skill Test
Candidates who meet the age, qualification and experience conditions declared in the application will be called for the Written Test, which is a Computer Based Test (CBT) with Multiple Choice Questions in Hindi and English. The Skill Test (Trade Test / Computer Proficiency Test) follows.

- Each correct answer carries 1 mark. There is no negative marking, and no marks are given for unattempted questions.
- Candidates who qualify the CBT are called for the Skill Test in order of merit in the ratio of 1:5 (5 candidates for each post).
- The Skill Test is qualifying in nature only. Candidates who fail it are not considered further.
- The final merit list is prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the written test/CBT only, separately for each unit, trade and category, as chosen by the candidate in the application.
- Document verification of provisionally selected candidates is done before offer letters are issued. Selection is also subject to medical fitness and character and antecedents verification.
- A trade-wise and category-wise wait-list is prepared for each unit, valid for one year.

- Visit the official website of IREL, www.irel.co.in, and open the recruitment portal.
- Read the complete advertisement (No. CO/HRM/36/2026) and choose only one unit and one trade for which you are eligible.
- Step 1 – Registration: Fill in your personal and contact details, click Generate OTP and verify both your mobile number and e-mail ID. After submitting, you will receive your Application Sequence Number (User ID) and password on your e-mail and mobile.
- Step 2 – Application: Log in again, click “Go To Application” and fill in Personal Details, Additional Details, Communication Details, Qualification Details and Declaration.
