Candidates applying for Design Trainee or Management Trainee posts must hold a Regular/Full-Time Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology (10+2+4, or 10+3+3 for lateral entry) from a recognized University/Institution, in the eligible branch of engineering corresponding to the discipline applied for. Part-Time, Correspondence, E-learning, or Distance Education courses are not eligible. Candidates possessing a 5-year Integrated Degree in the notified discipline are also eligible to apply.

HAL Recruitment 2026 Selection Process – Online Test and Interview
Selection for Design Trainee and Management Trainee posts will comprise an Online Computer Based Selection Test on an All-India basis, followed by a Personal Interview at Bengaluru:
- Online Test: The test will be of two and a half hours’ duration, consisting of Multiple-Choice Questions in three parts — Part I: 20 MCQs on General Awareness, Part II: 40 MCQs on English & Reasoning, and Part III: 100 MCQs on the concerned engineering discipline. The test can be taken in Hindi or English, as opted by the candidate at the time of application.
- Shortlisting for Interview: Candidates will be shortlisted for interview based on Online Test marks, in the ratio of 1:5 to the number of vacancies in each discipline and category.
- Final Merit List: The final merit will be prepared by assigning 85% weightage to Online Test marks and 15% weightage to Interview marks. Candidates must secure at least 50% marks each in the Written Test and Interview to qualify, with relaxation as applicable to reserved category candidates.
Candidates must appear for the Online Test at their own expense at the identified test centre mentioned in their e-Admit Card, which must be downloaded from the HAL website only. A valid original Photo ID Card must be produced before the Invigilator to be permitted to appear for the test.
