SSC CGL 2026 Eligibility Criteria – Educational Qualification and Nationality
Nationality: A candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia), or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. A certificate of eligibility from the Government of India is required for categories other than Indian citizen.

- If you have not registered earlier on the new SSC website (ssc.gov.in), complete your One-Time Registration (OTR) first. Note: OTR done on the old website (ssc.nic.in) is not valid for the new website
- After OTR, log in to the portal and proceed to fill the online application for SSC CGL 2026
- The application module will prompt you to capture a live photograph — find a place with good lighting and plain background, look straight into the camera, do not wear cap, mask, or spectacles while capturing the photo
- Upload your scanned signature in JPEG/JPG format (10–20 KB), with image dimensions of approximately 6.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height)
- Candidates opting for Aadhaar-based Authentication will get the advantage of not being rejected for photo/signature related issues and will not need to carry photo ID at the exam centre
- Fill in all required personal, educational, and category details carefully

SSC CGL 2026 Selection Process – Tier I, Tier II and Document Verification
- Tier-I (Computer Based Examination): Objective Type, Multiple Choice Questions. This is a screening exam. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of Tier-I marks will be called for Tier-II. Normalisation of marks will be done for multiple shifts.
- Tier-II (Computer Based Examination): Paper-I is compulsory for all. Paper-II (Statistics) is for JSO and Statistical Investigator Grade-II candidates. Paper-III (Finance & Economics) is for AAO/AAuO candidates. Candidates must qualify all sections of Paper-I separately including Section-III (CKT) and Section-IV (DEST), both of which are qualifying in nature.
- Document Verification: Candidates shortlisted after Tier-II will be called for document verification by the respective User Departments/Organizations. Final allotment is based on merit-cum-preferences of posts indicated by the candidate.
- Physical/Medical Test: For certain posts like Inspector (Central Excise/Examiner/Preventive Officer), Sub Inspector CBI/NIA, CBN Inspector, NCB Sub Inspector, physical standards and medical tests will be conducted by the User Department after final selection.
Important: Answer Keys of Tier-I and Tier-II will be uploaded on ssc.gov.in. Candidates can challenge tentative answer keys within the stipulated time on payment of ₹100/- per question (non-refundable). Final results are declared on the basis of Final Answer Keys.

SSC CGL 2026, officially called the Combined Graduate Level Examination 2026, is a central government competitive examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for filling up various Group B and Group C posts in Ministries, Departments, and Organizations of the Government of India. As per the official notification released on 21 May 2026, approximately 12,256 vacancies have been tentatively announced for SSC CGL 2026. These vacancies span across Pay Level 4 to Pay Level 8, covering posts like Inspector IT/CE, Sub Inspector CBI, Assistant Section Officer in CSS/MEA, Assistant Enforcement Officer, JSO, Auditor, Accountant, Tax Assistant, Postal Assistant, and many more. Updated post-wise and category-wise vacancy details will be available on ssc.gov.in as they are received from User Departments.
The last date for submission of online application for SSC CGL 2026 is 22 June 2026 up to 23:00 hours. The fee payment window closes on 23 June 2026 (23:00 hours). After the closing date, a Window for Application Form Correction will be open from 29 June 2026 to 01 July 2026 (23:00 hours) for candidates who wish to correct details in their submitted application, subject to payment of correction charges of ₹200/- for first correction and ₹500/- for second correction. Candidates are strongly advised to apply well before the last date and not wait for the final hours, as heavy website traffic on closing days can cause login failures.
For most posts under SSC CGL 2026, a Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University or equivalent is the minimum educational qualification required. However, for the post of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO), a Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with at least 60% marks in Mathematics at 12th standard level or a degree with Statistics as a subject at graduation level is required. For the post of Statistical Investigator Grade-II, a Bachelor’s Degree specifically in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Demography, IT, Computer Science, Data Science, or Artificial Intelligence is required. For Assistant Audit/Accounts Officer, a Bachelor’s Degree is the essential qualification with CA/CMA/CS/MBA Finance being desirable. The qualification must be possessed on or before 01.08.2026.
The age limit for SSC CGL 2026 is calculated as on 01 August 2026 and varies by post. For most Group C posts (Auditor, Accountant, Tax Assistant, Postal/Sorting Assistant, SSA/UDC), the age limit is 18–27 years. For Inspector-level posts (Inspector IT, Inspector CE, Assistant Enforcement Officer, Sub Inspector CBI/NIA, Inspector Posts, CBN Inspector, NCB Sub Inspector, ASO in IB/MeitY), the age limit is 18–30 years. For Assistant Section Officer posts in CSS, Railways, MEA, AFHQ, and Sub Inspector CBI, the age limit is 20–30 years. For Junior Statistical Officer (JSO), the age limit is 18–32 years. Age relaxation is available for SC (5 years), ST (5 years), OBC (3 years), PwBD (10–15 years), and Ex-Servicemen as per rules.
The application fee for SSC CGL 2026 is ₹100/- (Rupees One Hundred Only) for General, OBC, and EWS category candidates. Women candidates of all categories, SC/ST candidates, PwBD candidates, and Ex-Servicemen (ESM) eligible for reservation are completely exempted from paying any application fee. Fee can only be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, or RuPay Debit Card. The last date for fee payment is 23 June 2026 (23:00 hours). Applications where fee has not been received by SSC will be shown as Incomplete and will be summarily rejected. Fee once paid cannot be refunded under any circumstances.
The selection process for SSC CGL 2026 is conducted through a Computer Based Examination in two tiers. Tier-I is a screening exam with 100 Objective Type questions covering General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension, with a total of 200 marks and negative marking of 0.50 per wrong answer. Candidates clearing Tier-I are called for Tier-II. Tier-II Paper-I (compulsory for all) covers Mathematical Abilities, Reasoning, English, General Awareness, Computer Knowledge Test, and Data Entry Speed Test. Paper-II (Statistics, for JSO posts) and Paper-III (Finance and Economics, for AAO posts) are applicable to specific post applicants only. After Tier-II, candidates undergo Document Verification by User Departments, followed by Physical/Medical Tests for specific posts.
As per the official SSC CGL 2026 notification, the tentative schedule for Tier-I Computer Based Examination is August–September 2026 and for Tier-II Computer Based Examination is December 2026. These dates are tentative and may change at the discretion of the Commission. Any change in schedule will be communicated only through the official SSC website ssc.gov.in. Candidates are advised to keep checking the official website regularly for updates regarding exam dates, admit card availability, and result announcements. Admit cards will be available for download on ssc.gov.in before the respective exam dates.
The highest paying posts in SSC CGL 2026 are at Pay Level-8, which includes Assistant Audit Officer (Central Cadre), Assistant Audit Officer (State Cadre), and Assistant Accounts Officer (State Cadre) — all under the Indian Audit and Accounts Department under C&AG. These posts carry a basic pay range of ₹47,600 to ₹1,51,100 per month. These are Group B Gazetted Non-Ministerial posts with a minimum age of 18 years and maximum of 30 years. The age limit for AAO/AAuO is 18–30 years. The next best pay level is Level-7, which covers posts like Inspector of Income Tax (CBDT), Inspector (Central Excise/Preventive Officer/Examiner) in CBIC, Assistant Enforcement Officer in ED, Sub Inspector in CBI, Inspector Posts, and Assistant Section Officers in CSS, MEA, Railways, and AFHQ, with basic pay ranging from ₹44,900 to ₹1,42,400 per month.
